The idea of providing wheelchairs for disabled
kids in distressing circumstances was originally formed at the Rotary
Club of Surfers Sunrise with chairs made partly of components retrieved
from salvaged bicycles.
Other Rotary Clubs joined and the project grew.
The Rotary Club of Scarborough, Western Australia and the Christian
Brothers, initially partly financed by the Rotary Club of Surfers
Sunrise, took the project a stage further by developing a low cost
model made from new materials. more?

The Christian Brothers is a congregation of Catholic religious men numbering
about 1,800 working in 26 countries throughout the world. Their headquarters
is in Rome and they operate through 13 different provinces / regions.

ASeTTS is a
non-profit, non-government organisation which provides treatment and
support to people who have been tortured or traumatized by violent
conflicts. Many of our clients are recent arrivals to Australia,
although our services are available to all survivors whatever the
length of their residence in Australia has been. ASeTTS' services are
free, confidential, culturally inclusive and are designed for children
as well as adults. |

WWomens Health Services (WHS)
provides medical and clinical services, counselling, information,
community talks and workshops, referral, and outreach to women in
Western Australia. |

The Refugee Council of Australia is a non-profit peak organisation. It provides information on and
advocacy for refugees and humanitarian entrants in Australia on behalf
of its 90 organisational members and many individual members. It is not a part of the Australian Government. Information on how you can help to promote the human rights of displaced people is also provided. We

community based, not for profit agencies. The organisation provides a
wide variety of benefits to both the volunteers it serves and the local
community groups it assists by ensuring the supply of suitably matched

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United
Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and
co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve
refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the
rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone
can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another
State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or
to resettle in a third country.
